THE URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST: NO ONE HAS EVER RETURNED, TWO VERSIONS

Monday, February 8th, 2010

I am posting two versions for now of my newest Uranium Café Beatcast which I have given the working title of No One Has Ever Returned which is a line from the Mario Bava film Hercules in the Underworld. Presented here is the song in its music only version, without the movie samples. I am a little proud of this one and it is my most ambitious beatcast to date in terms of getting it as right as I can. It is the longest one I have done in terms of duration and also has the most loops placed all over it. I am not happy with the Hercules samples and no doubt the song will reappear someday with a new movie as the source for the sampled dialog. But I think it might be cool to hear the two versions side by side. The second version, with Hercules samples, is a short edit since I got frustrated with the results and stopped working on it.

I also put up a couple screen captures of the software I use with shots of the work in progress. The first program is Sony Acid 6 and it the program that puts everything together and extracts the samples from films. A bit of a learning curve with this one but I can do basically what I want to do with it for my needs. It is what I do my podcasts on as well. The second piece of software is the more user friendly Audacity and I use it for some final editing processes such as ‘normalizing’ the entire recording and in the case of my podcast taking out areas where I do ‘uh’ or stutter.  Eventually expect some version of this song but I just wanted to get it up as I am pleased with the results overall.

URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST: THAT’S ALL I NEED – REMIX 03

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I am not optimistic about the state of affairs regarding my audio files at edublogs.tv. I feel like they will all be disabled, or remain disabled. I will not let that deter me too much from at least posting my beatcasts and podcasts, which I host locally at my Maiahost.com service. I cannot reasonably host all audio files there. I can wait and see what happens over time but I think the days of my audio hosting songs and movie clips may be over. At least as far as songs and albums go for the most part. I have enough space but the process may be too daunting, or I may just feel that way tonight and that may change in a couple days. If the situation at edublogs.tv  gets cleared up then no problem. But if it goes down hill that will be the end of most it I think I will will go back into my archives  and simply remove all the nonworking Flash Players from edublogs.tv. But in the meantime here is a remix of an early beatcast called That’s All I Need, with samples taken from I Was A teenage Werewolf, with Michael Landon. This one is about the same length as the original but I tightened it all up a bit. I think this was my second beatcast exeriment and I like the remix here more than the first version. Lets hope all things get worked out.

URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST: LOOK AT YOUR HAIR-REMIX 03

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

A new Beatcast with samples from the film Sorority Girl. I have struggled with this tune more than any others so far and am not happy with it. It is a bit muddy and cluttered but I have cleaned it up as much as I am going to.  Lost all the samples I made from the film on my hard drive somehow and had to get them all back from the AVI file.  The Sony Acid 6 program could not locate them on the disk and it was a hassle to get them back but in the end they sounded better anyway.  This tune was an early experiment and so suffered from me lumping all sorts of sounds into the mix that were hard to get off later. Still want to do some tunes with myself doing some vocals and riffs on my guitar collection here.  Just a lot of work to do this sort of straight forward prerecorded loop things much less create all the loops and samples from my own playing. Crazy but it is coming eventually. Another  mix version of That’s All I Need, with samples from Teenage Werewolf,  coming up in a few posts. Hope somebody out there likes this strange creature. Enjoy.

YET ANOTHER URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST : SHORT OF CLOTHES – REMIX 03

pod-cast-image-final

Well I know last post I said I was going to wait awhile before launching a new beatcast but I worked last night and today on a remix of one of my earlier pieces I posted here called Short of Clothes with dialog samples from Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! and some juvenile delinquent film with William Shatner whose name I totally forget now. I was never too happy with the earlier mix. I felt it was too flat and not heavy enough for my liking. I also was learning how to do the dialog samples then I feel I over did it. I always like the guitar riff and bass line I patched together with Sony Acid 6. Anyone who has worked with software like his may know what I am talking about. The riffs you hear did not come as a ready to use loop but I used the ‘chopper’ application and took out small section from longer loops and put them together and it came out okay. I cannot hear the ‘seams’ at all the way I could on some earlier experiments. On this new mix I added a thick techno drum loop to fill in the empty spaces and reworked some of the dialog samples, places them on the beat a little better and panning them left and right a little more in certain areas. Sounds cool on head phones. I also added some echo to some of the voice samples and not sure about it in all areas but the piece sounds better than before. To hear the original and compare just go to my podcast/beatcast page, in my sidebar, click on the hip looking banner, and check it out. I think this is much better. May be remixing another early piece called That’s All I Need! as I never liked the final result too much either but it has some potential.

THE URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST: ONE NIGHT IN OLD EL PASO

pod-cast-image-final

I have some Beatcast cast stuff to release finally. In a couple more posts there will be another Beatcast and soon one I am still working on and that I have yet to find any dialog samples for. These next two lack dialog samples and were early experiments that I thought I had lost actually. I found the MP3s on my PC and figured I would post them here before I really did screw up and lose them. This particular piece was a turning point for me my struggles with the Sony Acid 6 software. I lost the original editable files and so I cannot tweak anything. The same is true of the piece that will be coming in a few more posts. I do not want to do Beatcasts back to back.. It is tricky business saving the Sony Acid files properly. If you lose your editable file you are basically screwed and I lost all of my very early ones. Some of my recent songs I may re-edit and re-post shortly as I can use the software a bit better. Have gave up on Abode Audition and Sonar and Cubase. I may go back to those but I seem to be getting the feel for Sony Acid 6 and see no reason to addle my little brain more with those harder to use programs (but with totally cooler looking interfaces). The new piece I am working on is my best I think so far. That will be here in a couple weeks I guess. But I am not going to rush it too much like I did some past pieces when I was simply pushing myself to solve issues with the software. For now enjoy this sort of south of the border sounding piece made with all Sony loops and lots of splicing and editing. The Uranium Café Podcast will be returning soon as well in a shorter and more focused format. Just a lot of work to do this stuff and sometimes I just am not into it the struggle aspect. Sometimes though I am. Hosting issues are resolved for the time being as well and I have the song posted here with local hosting as well as from my account at edutblogs.tv. Hope you like it. It is one of my better pieces I feel. Crank it on up.

URANIUM WILLY’S BEATCAST 04: LOOK AT YOUR HAIR

THE URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST 04: LOOK AT YOUR HAIR

The new Uranium Cafe Beatcast is here.

Samples from the Roger Corman juvenile delinquent gem Sorority Girl.

Not real happy with this one and the next one will take off in a slightly different direct, less garble and no scratch FX. These are all just experiments for now and may suffer from sounding cluttered. Hope to have the confidence next time to leave more out rather thanput more in. In anything like this you simply have to know when to stop.

URANIUM WILLY’S BEATCAST 03: SHORT OF CLOTHES

THE URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST 03: SHORT OF CLOTHES

I am getting behind on posting because I am toying around with this new stuff and trying to figure it out. This is my latest song made from loops and samples with Sony Acid 6 and Audacity. Man, this was really hard. The guitar and bass parts took a while and I took some short cuts with the movie samples. Then at the end I nearly suffered a disaster and the song was nearly abandoned due to a horrible quality in the mix down to MP3. I think I must have recorded the song at too high a volume and it sounded okay while recorded but was all distorted and broken up in the Mp3s and WAVs. Through an incredibly convoluted process I basically saved the project and nearly had a stroke doing so. Samples from Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! and some teenage delinquent film with William Shatner as a high school teacher. Back to movie posting soon I promise.

THE URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST 02: THAT’S ALL I NEED!

This is my second beatcast and I like the results a little more than the first. More comfortable with the Sony Acid 6 software than before and have been dabbling with some stripped down rock songs that will be up here eventually. I need to get some selections together with my own vocals eventually. My singing voice and my guitar leads are curious things to say the least but I will have them up here soon enough. A lot of technical ground broke on this one. Took the voice samples from I was a Teenage Werewolf with Michael Landen using Sony Acid 6.

THE URANIUM CAFE BEATCAST 01: UNTITLED EXPERIMENT

Trying something a little new here and not sure where it will go. I like to fool around with some recording software and sometimes come up with some little things I like. This piece was put together using loops and it is a daunting task I assure you. I am going to add some dialogue samples from a film soon but I have not found a movie to sample from. I am thinking Russ Meyer or Adamson. So there will be an updated version soon. There will always be a link in the sidebar as well with current original tunes. I am going to make some material featuring me on guitar and bass  and singing shortly (I hope) as well but it is pretty time consuming and work is about to pick back up. This is my first featured piece for my beatcast. The idea came from the guys over at Audioshocker and you should check out their podcast and beatcast. Good stuff. Hope you like this first experiment.

FILE WILL BE REPLACED SOON. THANKS, BILL 04 FEB 10
