Thanks for that great comment. All those publishing houses were great and the only thing that kept me from them as not being able to save enough lunch money from school each week to get all the titles I wanted. Actually I am not doing a book. That is commenter Mike H. He ahs a facebook page if you want to get some updates on Eerie Pub stuff at::

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/The-Weird-World-of-Eerie-Publications/188004885719?ref=ts

He is a regular commenter here, maybe only one of a three or four to be honest. I am glad people like you respond to my posts that are outside films since I have many interests and have had quite a few experiences with old mags and movies.

If you drop by Mike H.s FB page tell him Bill sent you :)

Bill, I, like you, grew up reading these in the early '70's. I was a fanatic for horror comics and I read them all--the Stanley's, the Skywald's, Creepy and Eerie...but there was nothing quite as satisfying in the fourth grade as reading a copy of Eerie's HORROR TALES or TALES FROM THE TOMB etc. and seeing the looks on the faces of my classmates and (especially!), my teachers. I mean, what other magazines had such ghoulish, grisly covers? Where else could you see a werewolf pounding a stake through a mummy's chest or vampire women ripping a bloody heart from a ghoul's chest? I don't think I would be writing horror stories today if it wasn't for Eerie Publications. I'm really looking forward to your book and it's high time somebody got around to writing it. Can't wait to see the cover--I know you'll not spare the gore! If you get a chance, could you put up "I Chopped Her Head Off" from Witches' Tales or "House of Monsters" from Horror Tales? Two great blood-drenched tales!!!

Hembras was a reprint of several italian mags, and I think they re-draw some of the more graphic scenes, too.

Mike

I used to have a a little collection as well and would dig it all out once in a while and sift through them on the floor. All my 'cool' tings were sold, given away or in extreme cases thrown out (yes!) before I moved here to China. I gave my comic book and magazine collection to my step son and I wish I had more of a legacy for him but he seemed to be really happy at the time.

That's very cool! Thanks for sharing it!

I have a modest collection of 80s xeroxed horror zines like Gore Gazette, Chicago Shivers, Hi-Tech Terror and the like. They're great fun to pull out every few years. Still great reading!

I got a huge collection of Eerie Publications from a Rapidshare search. I have a premium membership I paid for there so I got the files really fast. I think I just typed in 'eerie publications Rapidshare' and started getting some hits on Googles and after a while found some sites that had many of the titles in Rapidshare format. I got some from a Demonoid download as well, but most from Rapidshare files.

Hope it helps a little. I can spend a long time searching for stuff like this. Seldom comes quickly. There is a zen element involved somewhere.

I've been looking for a good source to get these comics in digital format so I don't have to wear out my old magazines. Do you have any suggestions?

BJ-C

I have only been blogging about 2 years and Kimberly's was one of the first blogs I came across when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do after I had a name and URL. I will also say that often her site is outside all the drama and popularity contests that goes on in the horror/cult community. When she says she is flattered I feel she is sincere. These awards usually go to the people 'in the club' or as you said in apost once on your blog people who have a knack at self promotion. They know how to work the Internet and have the time to do it.

Thanks for the visit and comment however. I feel my site sort floats in the border regions for the most part as well and am happy when one of the bloggers whose names I always see has something to say here. My existence is reaffirmed!

Thanks and keep up the good work at DOW
